Creative Method for Teaching Slope in an Algebra Class

"Slope is rise over run. Slope is the steepness of a line.  Slope is the rate of change. Slope is the change of 'y' over the change of 'x'."

However a teacher defines slope, students often require a visual aide to succeed.  During my student teaching many years ago, I designed a visual approach to teaching slope.  I merged a drawing with a story of "Sam" - a gender neutral name.  Following the adventures of Sam, I taught my students the reason behind why slopes have postitive, negative, zero, or no slopes.  To read more about this slope adventure, read "How to Teach Slope in a Creative Way."
