Last week Michigan was ranked the state with the highest unemployment in the country, yet many professional level jobs are still vacant. It is true that Michigan is a beautiful state with lots of fun activities
and places to enjoy. It is the state with the largest amount of coastline, offers great skiing in the winter, and lovely summer BBQ weather.
Whether you were laid off, seek a change, or just graduated from college, perhaps some of these jobs would work for you. Many are available until August or September, 2009. (Check the source at the bottom for more details.)
1. Nine Dentist Positions Pay: $37 - $51 per hour ** Most deadlines in September, 2009 **
The State of Michigan is in need of nine dentists to work at various correctional facilities across the state. These are full time positions in which the dentist would work in direct contact with convicted felons. It requires one year of dental experience as well as a Doctorate of Dental Surgery or Doctorate in Medical Dentistry degree. It is a non-union position.
2. Sixteen Parole / Probation Officers Pay: $18 - $28 per hour ** Apply by 6/26/09 **
A large variety of correctional facilities across Michigan require sixteen total parole / probation officers for full time employment. The officer would be required to investigate and supervise adult felons who are on parole, tether, or probation, making visits to homes and jails. He or she would also keep files and records, as well as use a computer. The applicant must have a Bachelor's degree in one of various fields.
3. Fifteen Psychiatrists Pay: $56 - $78 per hour ** Deadlines Vary **
This job requires offering psychiatric services to prisoners at various locations across the state of Michigan. He or she would also give clinical consultations and guidance to staff, as well as treat mentally ill or mentally disordered prisoners. This is a union position, and includes 401K, full health, dental, and vision benefits, and 12 paid holidays. Applicants must have a medical degree and must have completed both a residency psychiatric program and a year of experience as a psychiatrist.
4. Ten Registered Nurses / Nurse Managers Pay: $22 - $30 per hour ** Deadlines Vary **
Nurses would work at correctional institutions of varying security levels. A signing bonus of $1500 is often offered, but not a guarantee. Employees would assess and treat correctional residents, and independently perform the full range of nursing duties in any situation. These are union positions. Nurses are required to have a Michigan certification, as well as a registered nurse degree, with one year of experience.
